We are an organization run by donations, grants, and member ground lease fees! Every amount you donate allows us to better steward our properties and to take more land permanently off of the commodity market to keep it perpetually affordable in the community.

It’s been a big help having the mortgage low as it is when I think about how high mortgages can be. I think that before I moved in it was about the same amount, that was what I was happy about too, it was the same as when I was renting. And it hasn’t gone up since I’ve had the place, so that has helped a lot as well. It gave me peace of mind.

We have a greatly reduced mortgage and pay less property tax than your average Madisonian home owner when considering comparable properties. The money we save in housing payments goes toward healthy food, warm clothing, and improving the overall health of our family members.

Over the past ten years, living in an MACLT home and having a lower monthly mortgage payment gives us the option of saving more per month, putting money toward home improvements or other expenses, or simply more flexibility. We are saving long term by investing in a home versus renting. Living in an MACLT home has allowed us not only to save money each month, but to build up savings as a buffer and to stay out of debt.

The stewardship that MACLT provides (refinancing education, home maintenance grants, info about funds available to affordable homeowners, knowing we can contact MACLT about general questions we have, etc.) is very valuable. We do not feel alone when a housing issue arises; we can turn to MACLT for insight. They might be able to help or they might not have the answers, but either way, MACLT provides support and an open ear when we need guidance.
